Support the DANCING BEARS PARK Belitsa
In 2000, FOUR PAWS established the DANCING BEARS PARK Belitsa in cooperation with the French Brigitte Bardot Foundation to shelter and give a new life to bears who were exploited to entertain and perform as ‘dancing bears’
DANCING BEARS PARK Belitsa gives these bears a new life in an environment where they can act and live according to their natural needs. The sanctuary gives the bears a new home where they can wander about, dig dens, bathe and hibernate whenever they desire. The bears are provided care through experienced caretakers and veterinarians, who help them recover from their past suffering.
Since 2000, 31 former dancing bears from Bulgaria, Serbia and Albania, 6 bears from zoos and 2 young bears originating from private keeping conditions were rescued and housed in DANCING BEARS PARK Belitsa. Currently, there are 22 bears living in the several open-air enclosures of the sanctuary.
FOUR PAWS works in collaboration with scientists and universities connected with the program. As a result of the natural environment, the researchers are able to diligently analyze and monitor the recovery, as well as the progress of the rescued bears.
The sanctuary is located near the town of Belitsa in South-Western Bulgaria, roughly around 170 km from Sofia. The sanctuary is open to visitors and we recommend you to visit if you are near the area, as it allows you to see the bears in their natural environment, as well as giving you an opportunity to learn more about these intriguing animals and their life stories.
Your donation will go towards the support and care taking of the 22 bears living at DANCING BEARS PARK Belitsa.
