The brand new Arosa Bear Sanctuary

We are proud to announce that in Summer 2018, we were able to add another sanctuary to our bear rescue program! In cooperation with our partner Arosa Tourism, we broke ground in the mountains of Arosa, Switzerland in Summer 2017. In the past years, FOUR PAWS has rescued over 130 bears and our sanctuaries are almost at capacity. The number of bears in need however, seems to be never-ending.

The Arosa Bear Sanctuary can house 5 bears and encompasses an area of 3 hectares, the size of about 4,5 football fields. Situated at 2000m, the bears here enjoy a natural and species appropriate environment. The fresh mountain air and the lush greenery surrounding the sanctuary offers them a beautiful home to recover from their hardships. The Arosa Bear Sanctuary connects animal welfare and touristic development, creating a 'win-win' situation for both sides. On the one hand, it enables FOUR PAWS to house yet more rescued bears in appropriate conditions, while on the other, the municipality of Arosa has the opportunity to develop a sustainable form of tourism

Napa, Amelia and Meimo were the first inhabitants of the sanctuary and have embraced their new surroundings. Free from pain and abuse, they are happily exploring their enclosures.

Donate for the Arosa Bear Sanctuary and help offer abused bears like Napa, Amelia and Meimo a new lease on life.
